Archbishop Apuron was ordained a priest of the Order of the Friars Minor Capuchin in 1972. He was appointed an auxiliary bishop of Agaña in 1983, its apostolic administrator in 1985, and its Archbishop in 1986. Following allegations of sexual abuse, Archbishop Apuron was placed on leave by the Vatican in 2016. Archbishop Apuron is 70 years old and is a native of Guam.
In May 2016, a former altar boy publicly accused Archbishop Apuron of molestation when the former altar boy was 12 years old. Shortly thereafter, another former altar server public accused Archbishop Apuron of molesting him, which was followed by more former altar boys accusing him of sexually abusing them as children.
